ATLANTA–Calphalon’s new Unison line of cookware includes two nonstick coatings—called Sear and Slide—suited to each piece’s cooking function.
The Slide nonstick surface, found on the collection’s omelette and sauce pans, for example, is for creating delicate dishes such as omelettes and sushi rice. The Sear nonstick coating allows cooks to sear and has a textured surface with enough hold for food to brown and carmelize as well as remove food and clean up easily, the company said. Sear-coated pieces include saute pans, a wok, a roaster and a round grill pan. Made of heavy-gauge, hard anodized aluminum, the collection is sold in both sets and as open stock. A 10-piece set will retail for about $599.
“Part of the joy of cooking is experimenting and expressing yourself through food,” said Paul LoGiudice, design director, in a release. “But not all cookware allows you to be creative and still clean up easily—until now. By providing professional-quality cookware with two nonstick surfaces in one set, we are giving cooks the freedom to experiment and truly savor their time in the kitchen.”
In addition, Calphalon will allow Unison consumers to send their old cookware of any brand or condition to the company so that it can recycle it, in a new program called Calphalon ReNew. The consumer can send Calphalon a set of cookware in the box that will be included in the Unison set packaging, and in return she will receive two recycled cotton shopping bags. Calphalon will then recycle the old cookware when possible and safely dispose of any remaining parts.
