BOULDER, Colo.–John Thompson hopes that retailers can grow incremental sales by carrying more of his company’s growing products.
Thompson, the vice president of investor relations for AeroGrow International, said the 2-year-old company continues to introduce a bevy of indoor garden products and seed kits to its existing line. The company now offers 11 different models of garden kits, priced between $99 and $229, and 50 seed kits, from beginner items to master gardener items.
Among the new items are the Deluxe AeroGarden, featuring a technology that delivers twice the light with a new lamp hood, three deluxe grow bulbs and a 24-hour light option; and the Master Gardener 1-Season kit, which allows consumers to plant and grow thyme, basil or wildflowers. It includes a one-season supply of nutrients, grow domes, labels and a 72-page guide.
AeroGrow also offers kits that allows consumers to grow indoor vegetables, such as peppers and tomatoes.
“At first, we focused on the culinary and the kitchen,” Thompson said. “Now we are also offering products that are designed for total home decor. With our products, consumers can have a mini-garden in their homes 365 days a year.”
Thompson adds that retailers can benefit because AeroGrow products provide incremental revenue from a new product category and can serve as a “show stopper” for retailers looking to create some excitement in the store aisles.
“Consumers have never seen anything like this before,” he said. “When properly merchandised, consumers get very interested in our products and want to take them home. The key is that consumers want to see and touch these items.”
