Pacific Coast Feather believes it has upgraded the efficiency of its U.S. manufacturing with two recent deals for new facilities.
At the beginning of March, the company announced that it had acquired a production and distribution facility in Henderson, N.C. About a week later, Pacific Coast Feather said it had purchased a production and distribution facility in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Both locations involve the consolidation of multiple facilities into one building. At Henderson, the 500,000-square-foot site will take in the operations from three separate buildings in that community. A Pacific Coast Feather statement said the new facility will add 130,000 square feet of space to its Henderson operations.
The Maquoketa facility, which measures 240,000 square feet, will incorporate the operations from two separate buildings in that area. The Henderson operation produces natural- and synthetic-fill bed pillows, comforters, featherbeds and fiberbeds. Maquoketa manufactures natural- and synthetic-fill comforters and pillows.
The new Henderson site is scheduled to be up and running by Aug. 1 of this year. Pacific Coast Feather has pegged the completion of the transition to the new Maquoketa facility for late spring 2010.
In separate statements from the company announcing the moves, Eric Moen, president and chief executive officer of Pacific Coast Feather, said consolidating the operations into one facility at each location “enables us to realize significant cost savings along with operating efficiencies.”
Terms of the two purchases were not disclosed, but Pacific Coast Feather said both transactions were made without any external financing. “While PCFC is not immune to the ramifications of the ongoing economic slowdown, we are in an excellent position to weather this downturn while continuing to invest in our future,” Moen said.
The company’s other production and distribution centers are located in Kent, Wash., and Marysville, Wash.; Lebanon, Pa.; Pico Rivera, Calif.; Wayne, Neb.; and Toronto.
