WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.–An estimated 5,200 art buyers and licensees attended the Surtex trade show in New York from May 18 to 20, according to figures provided by GLM, the show’s owner and manager.
The show took place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and encompassed about 350 exhibitors of original artwork and design. A GLM statement said attendance grew in particular among those affiliated with home furnishings, paper products and giftware vendors and retailers. The exhibitors included 92 first-time companies that displayed art and design for home fashions, paper/stationery, tabletop products, and residential and commercial furnishings. International participation totaled 83 exhibitors from 13 countries outside of the United States, GLM added.
Surtex’s conference program drew nearly 550 attendees for nine seminars, which were organized around three tracks—business, licensing and trends. The show also offered the New Talent Showcase, in which students from the Surtex International Student Design Competition shared their portfolios.
The next Surtex will take place from Sunday, May 17, to Tuesday, May 19, 2009, also at the Javits Center.
