PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.–Sales of kitchen and dining home textiles increased 3.7 percent in the 12 months ending in June 2009, according to a report by The NPD Group.
The kitchen and dining segment was the only one in the home-textiles market to register sales growth in that period, said the market research firm. As a whole, sales of home textiles fell 3.5 percent in that 12-month period. NPD said kitchen and dining textiles have been the only one of the main textiles segments (which include bedding, bath and window treatments) to show growth over the past few years.
Looking at product sales by color and pattern, NPD found that white was the clear winner with a 23 percent rise in dollar sales in the 12-month period. Also, sales of home textiles purchased for a special occasion declined 14 percent in that period, while sales of textiles purchased for everyday use rose 12 percent, and sales of textiles for a combination of uses grew 8 percent.
