NEW YORK–The New York chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Association will team up with 7 W New York to host the Fashion Institute of Technology’s presentation of its Home Products Development Senior Project.
Scheduled for April 24, the event will present awards for FIT students’ senior product-development projects, in which students are required to develop a product based on the coordination of soft- and hard-goods classification. Four teams of four to five students will present their projects along with a comprehensive written product review to a panel of judges from the home furnishings industry and the sponsoring companies, Lifetime Brands and Ex-Cell Home Fashions. The final presentations will be made to the judging panel on April 17.
The evaluations of the projects are based on product development from concept to execution; innovation in the use of technology and materials; intrinsic “eco” strategies; and the effectiveness of the advertising, packaging and merchandising of the product.
The announcement of the student winner had traditionally been made at the FIT Scholarship Breakfast, but because that event was moved up to February this year, this format has been adopted.
