Well Heeled in Paris
Everything about the Palace of Versailles is larger than life, and that includes "Marilyn," a public work piece by Joana Vasconcelos. Part of a recently ended exhibition at Versailles, the giant pair of high heels was made with 312 pots and 670 lids and displayed in Versailles' renowned Hall of Mirrors.
"Great Houses of London" by James Stourton (Frances Lincoln Limited Publishers) offers what Stourton, chairman of Sotheby's UK, calls an "exclusive snoop" into 40 of London's finest homes. Now embassies, museums, private clubs and casinos as well as residences, this coffee table book shares their storied histories.
Comfort for the Stars
For the 20th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival, British furnishings brand Timothy Oulton outfitted the VIP green room at historic Guild Hall in East Hampton, N.Y.--where Alex Baldwin, Richard Gere, Meryl Streep, Nathan Lane and others gathered to mix and mingle before screenings--as well as several of the stage sets for some of the festival's events.
Artisan Alisa Toninato created this collection of limited-edition cast-iron skillets in the shape of each of the 48 contiguous United States, which can join together like a puzzle. The skillets were singled out for a Martha Stewart American Made award last month and were displayed in Grand Central Station.
