NEW YORK–The Home Fashion Products Association has issued a voluntary standard for the manufacturers of bed sheets that is intended to ensure the quality of the sheets.
The standard includes requirements for fabric performance, thread count, environmental characteristics of product and packaging, finished-product measurements, fabric types and labeling. According to an HFPA statement, tests described in this standard must be performed under laboratory conditions by an internationally recognized testing laboratory. The sheet standard is the first in what the association said will be a series of product standards, with a standard on towels slated to be the next one issued.
Jeff Hollander, executive chairman of Hollander Home Fashions and chairman of the HFPA standards committee, said the association “wanted to take a leadership role in creating a uniform set of standards and definitions so that retailers and consumers can be sure that they are receiving the products for which they are paying.”
Rich Roman, president and chief executive officer of Revman and HFPA’s president, said, “We expect that the standards created by the committee and upheld by the association will be embraced by the industry, and that adherence to them will be viewed by manufacturers, retailers and consumers as a mark of quality.”
