NEW YORK–Herb Raab, the long-time veteran of home furnishings retailing, passed away on May 11.
Raab, who was 83, died following a stroke.
A long-time executive with Macy’s New York, Raab eventually headed up the home area for the department store. From there he left to become president of W&J Sloane, the legendary furniture retailer with stores in New York, Beverly Hills and elsewhere. After Sloane’s went out of business, Raab continued to work in the industry, retiring in the mid 1990s.

His survivors include his wife, Carmen Aybar Raab, a designer of home textiles products for a number of major companies in the industry.
