PORT CHESTER, N.Y.–From her 100-year-old carriage house outside New York City to her mid-century modern getaway in Vermont, designer and author Chris Madden will show readers her own decorating styles in her 17th book, “The Soul of a House.”
“In these economically turbulent times, one’s home should be a gathering and nurturing haven, regardless of size or budget,” Madden said.
To be published by Rizzoli Publishers in fall 2010, Madden will also include historic spaces of people who have inspired her, from Thomas Jefferson to Mario Buatta, as well as architectural treasures such as the summer dacha of Czar Nicolas II in Russia and Coco Chanel’s Paris apartment. A percentage of the book’s proceeds will be donated to Madden’s Project Katrina, which helps families in the Gulf Coast who lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina.
In addition, this fall Madden’s best-selling “A Room of Her Own: Women’s Personal Spaces,” published in 1997 by Clarkson Potter/Publishers, will be published internationally for the first time in a paperback edition. She is also working on a business book, tentatively titled, “Chris Madden’s Entrepreneurial Spirit: How She Built a Billion Dollar Brand, Overcame Life’s Obstacles and Preserved Her Soul.”
