LAS VEGAS–Artwork inspired by the iconic Walt Disney is making its way to retail in a new licensed Walt Disney Signature art line from PTM Images, unveiled at last month’s Las Vegas Market.
The 125-piece upscale line, inspired by artwork created by illustrators for classic Disney films, rounds out the portfolio of furniture from Drexel Heritage, lighting from Minka Group’s Ambience division, rugs from The Rug Market and other home furnishings licensees.
“We want to create an entire lifestyle brand, based on Walt the man,” said Robert Oberschelp, director of licensing for the Walt Disney Signature collection.
Each piece tells a story, whether it’s an enlargement and re-coloration of whimsical trees from a scene in “Fantasia,” or an atmospheric sketch of rainy London streets, reflecting an abstract interpretation from “101 Dalmations.” Upscale mat and frame treatments are being used for the pieces, some of which are sold as sets and pairs.
While the art business is not a branded business, Jonathan Bass, chief executive officer of PTM Images, said he recognized an opportunity to tap into a wealth of archival images and history from the renowned collection.
“This has a real meaning and reason to be,” Bass said. “We’re bringing in historical branded product at a retail price. It’s about identifying a connection with the consumer, who has a trust and respect for Disney.”
Retail prices start at $100 and go to $399, with the “sweet spot” between $200 and $250, and shipping is slated to begin in three weeks, Bass told HFN.
