ATLANTA-The Icon Honors executive committee has unanimously elected to honor Peter Schauben, the founder of the industry organization Gift for Life, with a special industry Stewardship Award at the inaugural Honors celebration scheduled for July 17 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis during the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market.
Schauben’s career spans almost four decades, starting with retail entities in California and then following with wholesale business ventures, culminating with the founding of Appelman-Schauben in 1994. The firm now occupies more than 20,000 square feet of space in AmericasMart Atlanta, housing 30 lines in two divisions.
Schauben founded Gift for Life in 1992 and continues as its chief champion. A partnership between the gift, home and stationery industries, Gift for Life raises funds in support of AIDS education and research, and it has raised more than $4 million from its inception.
“Peter’s industry contributions are both Herculean and humble,” said Jeffrey Portman, Sr., AmericasMart president and chief operating officer. “He has given of himself tirelessly for many years, pressing toward the goal of doing greater good through his Gift For Life mission while building a significant business presence in his Appelman-Schauben enterprise. To acknowledge these achievements with the Icon 2010 Stewardship Award is a privilege and pleasure.”
Created exclusively by AmericasMart Atlanta in partnership with GHTA and HFN, ICON Honors is the first international program fully embracing the gift and home categories in an independent recognition of exemplary achievement across the industry for product manufacturing, product sales representative businesses and retailing.
