WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.—Attendance at the just-completed New York International Gift Fair totaled 33,000, the largest number since 2009, according to NYIGF owner and manager GLM.
The attendees represented retailers from all 50 U.S. states and 85 countries. Internationally, the largest number of visitors came from Canada, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Australian and the United Kingdom. The Gift Fair took place from Aug. 18-22 at its usual locations, the Jacob. K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 92 and 94 in New York City.
Christian Falkenberg, NYIGF director and GLM vice president, said exhibitors reported “solid and consistent order writing through the entire show. Traffic was up and it’s apparent the market is coming back.”
Among the special features at the summer NYIGF was the return of the Gourmet Housewares Show, which sold out and featured 175 companies presenting housewares and tabletop products. Also, the Emerging Designer Maker Platform debuted in the fair’s Handmade Designer Maker division, presenting work from four artisans in home decor accessories, kitchen tools and personal accessories. The new Artisan Resource section also debuted, spotlighting overseas artisanal producers and production resources.
