Sustainable Group Plans Jan. Events

SustainableFurnishingsCouncilCHAPEL HILL, N.C.-The home furnishings industry’s  advocate for environmentally responsible design and creating healthful homes kicks off 2014 with back-to-back West Coast events.

First, the Sustainable Furnishings Council will host a panel discussion during Las Vegas Market, “Cradle to Cradle Thinking: What Is It & What It Can Do For You.” The event, to be held Sunday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. in World Market Center Building C, Surya Seminar Room, C-0444, will feature interior designer and best-selling author Lori Dennis, Lori Dennis Design, and Lewis Perkins, senior vice president of development and textiles and apparel, Cradle To Cradle Products Innovation Institute.

Dennis and Perkins will introduce attendees to a future-focused approach to design that examines the entire lifecycle of an environment or product, from raw material and processing to manufacturing, distribution, use, reuse and recycling.

Next, the SFC sets off to Los Angeles for an exclusive tour of EcoBungalow-LA, a fire-safe, non-toxic and energy-efficient residence designed by Robin Wilson, Robin Wilson Home, for a family whose home was destroyed on Christmas Day in 2011. SFC, named the charity of choice for EcoBungalow-LA, will host tours on Thursday, Jan. 30.

Both events are free. The Las Vegas Market Cradle to Cradle seminar is open to all show attendees. Pre-registration is required to tour EcoBungalow-LA on Jan. 30; available tours are 10 a.m., 11 a.m., Noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.
