He will continue as a director and consultant to the company he worked at for 45 years.
“I will not even attempt to describe what Lewis has contributed to this company, this community and to me personally throughout the 45 years we have been so closely and loyally committed to each (other),” said Bernhardt, who now serves as chairman of the company. “His skill and knowledge of his trade are surpassed only by his leadership ability, which is always tempered by his personal and compassionate touch with people.”
Bernhardt and Norman were roommates in boarding school, attended the same college and as they grew older, they served in each other’s weddings, attended the same church and even were next door neighbors in Lenoir. Norman held a variety of positions at the company, most notably as president of the residential division.
“I can never thank him sufficiently for his total commitment and complete support,” said Bernhardt, “and I am very pleased he will continue to be closely associated with the company and with me.”
