HFIA to Assist Katrina Victims During Meeting in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS–The Home Furnishings Independents Association (HFIA) will devote a full day at its upcoming annual meeting here to help Hurricane Katrina victims rebuild and recover.
HFIA members from around the country are donating furniture, which will be stored by member Julian Doerr Mutter, of Doerr’s Furniture, until HFIA’s annual meeting May 7 and 8, at which time attendees will furnish several restored homes.
While HFIA members assisted Louisiana’s disaster relief in 2005 and 2006, some members wanted to continue humanitarian efforts, prompting the organization to devote one-half of its annual meeting to help New Orleans rebuild.
Thousands of homes in the parishes around New Orleans have been restored by numerous faith-based and non-profit organizations, and many families are ready to move in. These homes and families need beds, mattresses, tables, chairs, sofas, lights, floor-to-floor and wall-to-wall home furnishings. On May 8, Doerr Furniture trucks will deliver these HFIA donated items to awaiting HFIA members and staff attending the meeting who are volunteering their time to make these homes habitable.
