SAN FRANCISCO–Zocalo, the furniture company that built itself on a reputation of design at a price, has been acquired by FurnitureOrigins, an international furniture company with a strong importing heritage.
Terms for the deal were not announced and Zocalo will continue to operate under its own name with existing management and sales force, headed by Jeremy Sommer, president.
Zocalo, based here, will continue to show at the High Point Market where it will introduce four case good collections and a leather upholstery program next month. It is closing its Las Vegas showroom and will replace it with a new space in San Francisco.
Products from the newly combined company will be offered via direct container shipments, shared containers or through a new national distribution system.
“The new company will blend Zocalo’s design and marketing expertise with FurnitureOrigins’ financial strength and global manufacturing platform,” said Seth Jutan, chief executive officer.
Sommer added, “We are thrilled to have new capitalization with proven furniture manufacturers and people who are committed to building a world-class furniture company.”
