Scozzafava to Lead AHFA in 2012
Ralph Scozzafava, chairman and CEO of Furniture Brands International was elected 2012 chairman of the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA) board of directors during the group’s 2011 annual meeting last month.
Wyatt Bassett, president/CEO of Vaughan-Bassett, moves to first vice chairman, and George Revington, CEO of Home Meridian International, was elected second vice chairman.
Bob Duncan, CEO of American Leather, now moves to immediate past-chairman of the board of directors. All of the new officers will take their posts on Jan. 1, 2012.
Executives newly elected to three-year terms on the board of directors include: Alan Cole, Hooker Furniture; Richard Magnussen, Magnussen Home Furnishings; Bill Markowitz, The Veneman Group; Kevin Sauder, Sauder Woodworking; Eric Schenk, Century Furniture; Ed Teplitz, Thomasville Furniture; and Roy Calcagne, Craftmaster Furniture.
Woolrich Holds Summit for Brand Partners
Executives from Woolrich and their home furnishings brand partners met for the ninth annual Brand Partners Summit during the recent High Point Market. Sessions included a corporate business overview, strategic planning, and ongoing branding initiatives. The group also shared ideas for growth and reviewed new products and style directions planned for the coming year.
Attendees included executives from Woolrich Home as well as licensees JLA Home, Shadow Mountain, Whitecraft, Picture Source, Mohawk Home, Rowe Pottery Works, and PM&J. Other participants included licensing and marketing executives from Woolrich and The Media Matters. The meeting was held in the JLA Home showroom that earlier this year debuted as the new bedding ensemble licensee for Woolrich.
“We continue to broaden our product offering by incorporating familiar patterns and icons, yet with fresher color palettes, while giving our core customers the vibrant tones and timeless designs they expect from Woolrich.” said Sharon Kepley, Woolrich’s licensing manager for home furnishings. “Our selections will have greater appeal in a variety of today’s active homes.”
Theodore Alexander Expands International Team
Luxury furniture maker Theodore Alexander expanded its international sales and marketing team to build on its growing base of emerging and established markets outside of North America. To further this objective, a global stocking program and showroom is currently being added at its world headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
As part of this strategy, Theodore Alexander has appointed Werner Freundel to the position of country manager and director of its business in China and Meera Kakar to regional sales manager of India. In addition, the company recently promoted Dinara Reziapova to serve as regional sales manager for Russia and Eastern Europe. Each of these is a new position.
“We have a well-established network of distributors and retailers in a number of key global markets and the list is expanding,” said Harvey Dondero, chief executive officer of Theodore Alexander. “In addition to these three new positions covering China, India, Russia, and Eastern Europe, we are looking at other important international markets to see which could best be served by having a Theodore Alexander business presence. These appointments will help us continue building our very strong global brand with wide international appeal.”
Uttermost Unveils Dual IPad Apps
Uttermost launched two apps, both designed for use on the new iPad 2.
The first app is a business-to-business app for use in Uttermost’s wholesale showrooms. This app was developed specifically for Uttermost, and allows for orders to be scanned into the iPad using a miniature bluetooth scanner. The objective is to allow sales representatives to focus on their customers’ needs, while seamlessly scanning orders into their iPad.
The other new Uttermost app is for use by Uttermost sales representatives, retail dealers and consumers. The functionality includes nearly everything that the new Uttermost website includes, plus swiping from image to image and pinch-zooming for extreme enlargement. This app is ideal for presenting product one-on-one, or when connected to a big screen or monitor, to a group of people. The consumer version of this App is available on Apple’s itunes.com, under the name Uttermost, for $2.99.
