Crate and Barrel Launches 3D Room Designer

NORTHBROOK, Ill.-Crate and Barrel has introduced the 3D Room Designer, an application that will be available at all of the retailer’s home store locations beginning on June 27.

Developed in partnership with NedSense, this furniture and design tool converts a customer-supplied digital photo of a room into a three-dimensional room model. It allows Crate and Barrel customers to transform their space using three-D models of the retailer’s merchandise. Users of the app can try out different products, materials and colors, and pair them with current furnishings, thus ensuring that the products will work for them and their space prior to purchase.

Customers can bring in or email their room photos to the store with only the measurements of the height of the room and the width of an object on the wall. Guided by store associates and with the touch of a mouse, they will be able to see Crate and Barrel products in their room, “clean” objects from it, play with fabric and color options, and change their room’s layout.

A Crate and Barrel statement said more than 2,000 of the retailer’s products are incorporated into the 3D Room Designer. The app will be added to the retailer’s website this fall, and an iPad version is slated to debut in early 2013.
