City of Hope Spirit of Life Award Dinner Breaks Records

LOS ANGELES–City of Hope announced today that its 2012 Spirit of Life dinner honoring industry leaders, Jeff Seaman of Rooms To Go and Bob Sherman of Serta Mattress Company, raised a record-breaking $1.5 million.

More than 800 attendees packed the sold-out ballroom at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., on April 22 to pay tribute to the honorees and the groundbreaking research City of Hope undertakes in the fight against cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening illnesses.

In tribute to more than 45 years’ partnership with the National Home Furnishings Industry, Dr. Michael A. Friedman, president and chief executive officer of City of Hope, was on hand to give the evening’s keynote address. Jena Hall of Jena Hall Designs, and Roger Friesen of Casana Furniture, co-chairs of the National Home Furnishings Industry initiative for City of Hope, were featured in the program, as was Spirit of Life dinner chairman Kevin O’Connor of Samson Marketing.

Earlier in the evening a VIP reception was held to celebrate the 2012 honorees and their teams along with past, present, and future City of Hope honorees. During the reception, Patrick Cory of Cory Companies was presented as the 2012 City of Hope Volunteer of the Year.

“We are so proud of this industry’s record-breaking support for City of Hope,” said Jena Hall. “It was inspiring to see so many industry titans celebrate Jeff and Bob’s enormous contributions to cure the diseases that affect all of our families.”
