CALHOUN, Ga.–Surya has produced its first video, which shows the craftsmanship and people behind the rugs made at its factory in India. Just under six minutes long, the video will be distributed to Surya’s retailers, sales associates and industry partners, and will be featured on its website.
The video takes a look at the rug-making process from the time the bales of wool arrive at the factory to the time diesel trucks take away finished product, showing that dozens of people have a hand — literally — in the making of the rugs, including dyeing, weaving, spinning and more. A medium-sized, hand-tufted rug takes about a week to make, while a 5-by-8 handknotted rug takes about six months.
“We want to give people an in-depth look into what we really do, you see, the core of our company is not the rugs — it’s the people,” Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “The passion they exude for their craft is rare, but inspiring, and we want to share that with the world.
