Continuing its partnership with India’s Akshaya Patra Foundation, Surya recently participated in the Atlanta AllState Half-Marathon, raising an additional $29,000 for the organization.
Surya’s president, Satya Tiwari, and a team of Surya employees ran in the half-marathon on behalf of the nonprofit in a program it called Miles for Meals. The team exceeded its initial goal by more than $4,000; the money raised will help the charity to feed 1,941 children over the coming year.
One of the world’s largest non-governmental (NGO)-run school feeding programs, the Akshaya Patra Foundation serves more than 1.3 million children in rural India freshly prepared, nutritious meals every day. Earlier this year, Surya donated $250,000 to the foundation.
“I want to personally thank all of those who donated their time and money towards this amazing cause. Growing up in northern India, I saw the desperate need that still exists in so many communities for the healthy food and educational opportunities that can so easily be taken for granted,” said Tiwari.
