CALHOUN, Ga.–Surya continues to grow its portfolio of designers with Malene B, a Brooklyn, N.Y.-based designer known for her globally inspired aesthetic. Debuting at next week’s Atlanta International Area Rug Market, Malene B’s new licensed line with Surya will start with Voyages and Destinations, two lines of flatweaves and handtufted rugs that reflect her passion for world travel and cultural exploration, with inspiration ranging from Bali’s rice paddies to the Caribbean’s Carnival celebrations.
On Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 2 p.m., Malene B will share her style inspirations with attendees in a catered event co-hosted with Surya in its new showroom, 11-A-1, in Building 1.
“Malene B brings an entirely new aesthetic to the Surya brand with her globally inspired design perspective and playful sense of color. Her designs tap into the growing convergence between distinct cultural styles—which I believe will resonate strongly with our retail partners and consumers,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya.
In addition, Surya also became a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, which promotes sustainable practices among manufacturers, retailers and consumers. Surya has been growing its collection of products made out of natural materials, and at next week’s Atlanta International Area Rug Market it will be showing more rugs and poufs in this category.
“As a home accessories manufacturer, we look for ways to work smarter and eliminate waste wherever possible within the supply chain. Joining the SFC organization will give us more tools to affect industry change and a platform to share valuable information with other manufacturers and retailers,” said Tiwari.
“We are delighted to have welcomed Surya into Sustainable Furnishings Council membership—they are a dynamic company, bringing unique energy to their product development and marketing efforts. The company’s profound commitment to excellence will result in responsibility to the cause, as well as to their customer,” said Susan Inglis, executive director of the Sustainable Furnishings Council.
