CALHOUN, Ga.–Surya has introduced the Smithsonian Collection by Surya, a result of its collaboration with the Smithsonian Institute.
The collection is comprised of 12 hand-tufted, 100-percent-wool rugs made in India, along with coordinated giclee printed wall art. The pieces are inspired by artifacts in the Smithsonian’s vast archives, representing a variety of cultures and historical provenances, including 19th-century ornamental and decorative designs from Egypt and China; 18th- and 19th-century French wall coverings; and 19th-century American textiles.
“It was exciting to reinvent patterns and designs that seem familiar yet forgotten and translate them into floor accents for today’s interiors,” said Surya President Satya Tiwari. “The timeless qualities of these rugs make them appealing to a broad spectrum of customers, and they are sure to become lasting favorites.”
