DALTON, Ga.–Shaw Industries has partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy to reduce its energy intensity by 25 percent in the next 10 years.
The company kicked off its participation by attending the invitation-only Industrial Energy Efficiency Summit this month in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The summit is designed to help participants capitalize on DOE resources to increase energy efficiency, and enable them to guide energy policy and shape the direction of DOE activities.
“Shaw has already made great strides in energy efficiency, but we can do more,” said Rick Ramirez, vice president of sustainability and environmental affairs for the company. “Saving energy not only makes better business sense, but it’s the right thing to do for our environment and future.”
In addition, the company has been selected to be a Founding Reporter of The Climate Registry, a non-profit organization established to measure and publicly report greenhouse gas emissions in a common, accurate and transparent manner consistent across industry sectors and borders. Shaw is one of just over 200 founding reporting entities, which incorporates participation from 39 U.S. states, eight Canadian provinces, six Mexican states, three Native American tribes and the District of Columbia.
