BOSTON–Artists for Humanity and floor covering company Merida Meridian has kicked off a rug design contest that looks to inspire young students to design sustainable textiles.
High school student artists, who work with Artists for Humanity, will create rug prototypes, with Merida creative director Meagan Fee critiquing the students’ output throughout the process.
“We have found amazing synergy with Artists For Humanity in our shared passions of art, design, sustainability and social responsibility,” said Catherine Connolly, chief executive officer, Merida. “I am so excited to have the privilege of working with these phenomenally talented young people and cannot wait to see where this project takes them.”
Students will submit three final designs and inspiration boards to Merida in early November. A team of professional interior, graphic and product designers will judge the designs and choose three winners. The winning designs will be showcased at the AFH’s annual open house in December, and then sold through Merida starting early next year.
