HIGH POINT, N.C.–High Point Market is turning to a pair of musical institutions for its spring Stars Under the Stars concert series and gala Centennial Celebration.
Blood Sweat & Tears will kick off the festivities on April 25th under the Main Event Tent adjacent to the Transportation Terminal on Commerce Avenue. The next evening, legendary ’70s R&B group The Spinners will take the stage armed with their long playlist of hits. On April 26, the Beatles tribute band 1964 plays songs made famous by John, Paul, George and Ringo.
Also to mark the 100th anniversary of the market, the High Point Market Authority is introducing a special insignia that will appear in a variety of marketing materials, as well as signage throughout the downtown area.
The centennial celebration insignia features a multi-branched tree astride a banner emblazoned with the years 1909-2009, supported by the words “100 Years New.”
According to Brian D. Casey, president and chief executive of the High Point Market Authority, the insignia honors the High Point Market’s early history and the case goods makers who essentially planted the seed for the market 100 years ago this coming spring, while speaking to the market’s relevance in the future.
“We see the 100th anniversary of the High Point Market as an opportunity to look forward as well as back, in a year-long celebration of the products, people and ideas that have coalesced over the decades into the world’s premier market in the world’s home for home furnishings,” Casey said.
