PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.–Participating in this year’s Kips Bay Boys & Girls Decorator Show House, designer Thom Filicia will not only incorporate a new hemp and jute rug from his line with Safavieh into his space, but also run a promotion with the rug company to build awareness for the show house, which benefits the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. The 40th annual Show House will be held from May 16 to June 14, 2012, at The Aldyn in New York’s Upper West Side.

Starting tomorrow, dealers, designers and consumers will be able to guess which rug from Filicia’s new hemp and jute collection the designer will use in his Kips Bay interior through the contest, which will run on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. All correct answers will be entered in a Safavieh random drawing for one of Thom Filicia’s hemp and jute rugs. The winner will be announced on May 15.

“We are so proud that Thom has chosen one of his Safavieh rugs to showcase at Kips Bay,” said Arash Yaraghi, a Safavieh principal. “This is one of the most important events in the interior design business: it blends decorative arts with the finest design talents in the world, and to have our product on display is a distinct honor.”

The rug collection, which includes seven designs, is an extension of Filicia’s exploration of eco-friendly carpet fibers and weaves with Safavieh. “Each of these new sustainable rugs encompasses a combination of global, ethnic, and modern influences that put this collection at the forefront of today’s trends,” Filicia said. “All of the rugs in the line use a rich gradation and detailed layering of color, giving them a beautiful ease and approachability juxtaposed with strong and smart patterns. The combination creates an elegant balance. The rugs have a smart and sophisticated stylish aesthetic, and are made with a beautiful hand.”
