CARTERSVILLE, Ga.-Shaw Industries Group is installing solar panels on the roof of its carpet tile manufacturing facility here.
Construction is expected to be completed some time this month. When it is finished, the installation is expected to produce approximately 1.4 million kilowatt hours of power a year, enough (according to a Shaw statement) to power 100 homes in Georgia each year. Feeding into the Georgia Power electric grid, Shaw will use the energy to help power the plant.
Paul Murray, Shaw’s vice president of sustainability and environmental affairs, said the company is always exploring opportunities to improve energy efficiency and use renewable and alternative energy sources. “Solar is a mature, reliable power source, and the economics made this a viable long-term investment for this facility,” Murray said.
