PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.–Showing in its new New York wholesale showroom, at 902 Broadway on the mezzanine level, Safavieh will expand its handwoven dhurrie collection, as well as add other designs and colors in a range of price points in handknotted, handtufted and power-loomed rugs at the New York Home Fashions Market, which opened today.
The handwoven wool dhurrie collection has grown with 25 new geometric designs styled to coordinate in color and scale with the more than 50 introductions in the company’s growing Courtyard and Veranda indoor/outdoor rug collections. At the show this week, Safavieh will show two dhurrie qualities for the first time, each handwoven of wool in India. The new dhurrie 600 range retails for $440 and standard Safavieh dhurries retail at $280 in the 5-by-8 size. Courtyard and Veranda indoor/outdoor rug collections retail at $160 in the 5-by-8 size.
“We project a major shift to contemporary and modern furniture next year and our new emphasis on bold geometrics and oversized florals reflects that trend, as well as the consumer’s desire to coordinate color and pattern in indoor and outdoor spaces,” said Cyrus Yaraghi, a Safavieh principal. “We find that Moroccan-inspired designs currently offered in these collections have become decorating staples. We have therefore expanded on our signature pastel palettes with Moroccan patterns in the newest fashion colors: yellow, gray, red, and black with white for Spring 2014.”
Safavieh has also added to its wool Soho, Cambridge and Chatham collections with more than 100 new SKUs. All are hand-tufted in India. In addition, the company’s power-loomed Porcello collection, which is made of polypropylene in India and retails for $199 in the 5-by-8 size, has been expanded with 30 new designs including abstract geometrics and oversized blossoms scattered across contrasting grounds.
