PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.—Safavieh has doubled its warehouse space in Easton, Penn., with the purchase of a second facility. The new 300,000-square-foot warehouse supplements the existing 320,000 square foot facility in Easton. In addition, the company also has a 250,000-square-foot warehouse in Allentown, Penn.
The company said that the need for expanded capacity to stock rugs and furniture was brought on by forecasted growth as well as “substantial sales increases” both last year and the first half of this year.
“We have experienced significant sales increases since the introduction of power-loomed and handtufted rugs, as well as several rug qualities designed for indoor and outdoor use,” said Cyrus Yaraghi, principal, Safavieh. “The new facility will allow us room to expand our current rug offerings with even more diversity in 2012.”
The company tested handtufted rugs in 2010 and then expanded in 2011 to eight collections, while the powerloom line started last year. The new rug categories target new distribution channels, including big box stores and warehouse clubs, and the furniture division continues to grow. The company maintains an inventory of 500-plus quick ship items in its furniture division, which are constantly changed out with new designs and colorways.
Earlier this year, Safavieh announced the purchase of its first European distribution center and warehouse near Antwerp, Belgium. Its total warehouse space worldwide is 1.14 million square feet.
