ATLANTA — The rug industry kicks off the new year in Atlanta, and there will be plenty of activity for today, the opening day of the Atlanta International Area Rug Market.
Couristan is celebrating its 85th anniversary with a champagne brunch in its showroom, 6-D-11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also for its anniversary it will unveil its Signature collection, which offers the look of vintage handmade Persian area rugs but in a lower-priced, machine-made construction.
Millennium Weavers makes its debut to the industry this market, and will be based in the showroom of its distributor, LR Resources, 4-F-3. Millennium Weavers will be making a special announcement at 2 p.m., followed by a reception.
Starting at 3:30 p.m. Kaleen will offer attendees food, beer and wine as well as music from a mariachi band in its showroom, 3-C-9.
In its renovated showroom, 3-A-2, Oriental Weavers will host a “Kindle Your Fire” party tonight from 4-7 p.m., giving away a new Kindle Fire tablet every 30 minutes during the party. In addition, hor d’oeuvres and drinks will have a “fiery” theme.
At 5 p.m., Orian Rugs cuts the ribbon on its new showroom, 6-F-1. Also starting at 5 p.m., Loloi will have a party in its showroom, 4-C-7, which will include food and drink as well as music from the eight-piece band Glow.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Kas Rugs will host a party in its showroom, 4-D-2, from 5-7 p.m. Also from 5-7 p.m., Shaw will have a party in its showroom, 6-A-2, to kick off the new year.
And from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Goodweave will host an event two blocks from AmericasMart, in the Stoddard Room of the E Lounge at Ellis Hotel, 176 Peachtree Street. The event will give attendees a chance to enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as well as learn more about GoodWeave’s expansion into Afghanistan.
