NEW YORK–Xcel Brands and Safavieh will debut the Isaac Mizrahi New York rug collection next month at two markets: the Atlanta International Area Rug Market in AmericasMart’s Building 1, showroom 5-A-2, and the Las Vegas Market in Building A, showroom A101.
The group of 22 handtufted and handhooked wool area rugs reflect Mizrahi’s colorful, transitional design aesthetic and encompass dramatic floral designs, multi-color stripes and several globally inspired tribal motifs. Designs include Porcelain Floral, an artfully handtufted cut pile rug inspired by blue and white Chinoiserie motifs in antique Chinese porcelain; Water Garden, a tone-on-tone handhooked loop pile rug with stylized flower petals in viscose; and Island Lattice, which features a white trellis motif on an azure background.
“Isaac Mizrahi brings a bold, fearless approach to color and pattern scale to his rug collection, which is unique in the overall home category, and especially important as rugs are increasingly viewed as fashion statements in a room,” said Arash Yaraghi, principal, Safavieh. “Retailers will like the built-in brand loyalty that comes with the Isaac Mizrahi name, and the broad demographic that will now consider rugs a fashion accessory.“
First announced in July 2012, the licensed collection joins Safavieh’s other designer licenses, which include Martha Stewart, Thom Filicia and Ralph Lauren.
