With inspiration drawn from the Brooklyn Bridge to an Indian tie dye technique to Sri Lankan lace, the newest designer collection from Surya infuses a globally inspired aesthetic and is the creation of Brooklyn designer Malene B.
At last month's Atlanta International Area Rug Market, Malene Barnett launched her new two collections with Surya: Destinations, her handtufted line, and Voyages, a group of flatweaves.
"My collection with Surya is inspired by the beautiful landscapes of exotic places such as Dakar, Caracas and Bali," the designer told HFN. "Each design incorporates my signature use of color, graphics and multiple pile heights. Let them take you on a journey of inspiration."
A veteran designer, Barnett has owned her custom carpet company since 2009, handling both residential and hospitality projects.
Satya Tiwari, president, Surya, said, "Malene B brings an entirely new aesthetic to the Surya brand with her globally inspired design perspective and playful sense of color. Her designs tap into the growing convergence between distinct cultural styles--which I believe will resonate strongly with our retail partners and consumers."
