Foreign Accents Under New Ownership

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–Rug supplier Foreign Accents has recently been purchased by Doug, Kris and Molly Anderson, a deal that was finalized last month.

“After 30 years of success and innovative design, it’s time to hand the reins of rug responsibility over to a new team,” said founder Trish Rempen, who will remain a design consultant. “I’m delighted with the way things have developed. The Andersons are a dream team, with expertise in business, design, merchandising, management and finance. They are excited about running Foreign Accents, and I’m thoroughly enjoying the transition activities.”

Doug Anderson, president, added, “We like what we see at Foreign Accents, and we don’t intend to change anything. We plan to expand the collections, add designs and grow the company, but the Foreign Accents’ look and spirit will remain the same.”

Rempen crossed paths in New Mexico with Doug Anderson, who told her that his son Kris and daughter-in-law Molly were looking to buy a business. “When he described their backgrounds, my comment was, ‘They sound more qualified to run Foreign Accents than I was!’” Rempen said. He added that Doug Anderson has owned and operated both startup and existing businesses in the past, while Kris Anderson, now Foreign Accents’ national sales manager, has led a major business group in the financial industry.

Molly Anderson will handle design and is already developing three collections for spring; she has worked in merchandising, design and artistic production with nationwide retailers as well as a television network. This is the Andersons’ first foray into the rug category, Rempen added, though they’ve been involved with other areas of the home and design industry.

All current staff and reps remain the same, Rempen added, although a few new reps have been added as well as a new position. She and the new owners will celebrate the transition with the industry at April’s High Point Market.

Rempen, who recently published her first book, “Meanwhile, Back in Los Ranchos,” will now devote more time to traveling and future books.
