Miller Tabbed by J.C. Penney to Lead Central Square Effort
PLANO, Texas-Laurie Beja Miller has been appointed executive vice president for The Square at J.C. Penney.
Miller's responsibility in her new role is to head the department-store retailer's center core in its upcoming format change. As described by Ron Johnson, CEO, at an event with financial analysts in January, the new format involves a central area surrounded by shops with all of the merchandise. This area will serve as a gathering place with ongoing attractions and services, according to a J.C. Penney statement.
Miller reports directly to Johnson, who cited her "exceptional track record of creating differentiated shopping environments, unique insight into customer behavior and a passion about retail that will all be invaluable as we execute our concept for J.C. Penney's stores."
Before joining J.C. Penney, Miller was senior vice president and general manager, Americas at Bare Escentuals. Her career also includes executive positions with Nike, Hallmark Cards, Apple, Pottery Barn, Disney Stores, Spiegel, Milwaukee Boston and Marshall Field.
