PLANO, Texas–J. C. Penney is realigning its buying, marketing, planning and allocation teams, which will result in the elimination of approximately 150 headquarter positions, a spokesman confirmed.
These positions currently serve the retailer’s stores, jcpenney.com and catalog divisions.
“The growth of our Internet channel, as well as customers becoming more comfortable shopping J.C. Penney enterprise-wide prompted the company to realign our merchandising and marketing organizations to deliver a more consistent and coordinated customer experience,” the spokesman said.
“We began this realignment process before the current economic downturn,” he added.
Store associates impacted may be provided other job opportunities or apply for vacant positions within the organization.
The retailer employs approximately 5,000 associates.
