Taking a Shine To Chandeliers
Creations of self-taught artist Adam Wallacavage, the chandeliers that are the focus of “Shiny Monsters,” a new exhibit at the Philadelphia Art Alliance, would be hard to miss in any interior. Made with the traditional techniques of ornamental plastering, the brightly colored pieces include such shapes as octopus arms, sea serpents and Hello Kitty heads. The exhibit runs through July 15.

Sawkill Lumber Co. recently presented 12x12, a juried exhibition of 12 furniture designers and the reclaimed lumber of 12 demolished New York City structures, including this Water Tower Chair by Bellboy. The 12 pieces were sold in a silent auction to benefit woodworking education and job training in New York City through the non-profit Brooklyn Woods. 12x12nyc.com

Zeisel’s Survival Story
“There was very little probability that I would live—nobody wished me well.” So said renown designer Eva Zeisel of her time in jail in the new eBook, “Eva Zeisel: A Soviet Prison Memoir.” Of course the designer, who died last December at 105 years of age, lived well past the time when she was accused of trying to kill Stalin in 1936. Her memoir, published by her daughter and son-in-law, tells her story of survival in her words, along with visual and audio material. Keep Calm—and Feed the Corgis

For those who wonder what Queen Elizabeth does in private, away from the cameras and crowds, a new limited-edition collection from The New English takes a fun peek. Washing the dishes, pulling up her tights, watching Wimbledon and, here, feeding her corgis are some of the subjects of the new line (an actress plays the Queen).
