MATTHEWS, N.C.-Edward P. Garden, chief investment officer and a founding partner of Trian Partners, has been chosen as a director on the Family Dollar board of directors.

Garden is also a member of the board of The Wendy’s Co., and has served on the board of Triarc Cos., at which he was also vice chairman. He was also a managing director at Credit Suisse First Boston.

Howard Levine, Family Dollar’s chairman and CEO, said Garden brings “the perspective of a major stockholder and years of experience investing in, and working with, consumer-related companies.”
