LAS VEGAS–Consumers are interested in purchasing sustainable home furnishings as long as the price is comparable to other like products, according to the 2009 Green Home Furnishings Consumer Study.
Conducted by the Sustainable Furnishings Council and sponsored by World Market Center Las Vegas, the study found that if consumers like the style of a sustainable product and the price is about the same, more than 80 percent of the study participants would have some level of interest. Fifty percent of the respondents said they automatically assume that a green product will cost more. Forty-four percent said they are interested in doing what they can for the environment, including recycling, adjusting the thermostat, using reusable shopping bags and buying green products.
In a World Market Center statement, Jeff Hiller, president of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, said the study shows that “there is a significant portion of the buying public out there in our markets that is very interested in at least hearing the story of sustainability in our product categories.”
