NEW YORK–Bloomingdale’s will open three stores, including two that will feature the store design concept launched at the Bloomingdale’s SoHo store in lower Manhattan, parent company Macy’s announced yesterday.
The new SoHo-type concept stores will be smaller than the traditional Bloomingdale’s store, featuring tightly edited assortments of contemporary men’s and women’s merchandise tailored to the local market. This is the first expansion of the SoHo concept beyond New York. As for now, there are no plans to include home in the new SoHo-inspired stores, a Macy’s spokeswoman said.
A store with the SoHo design will open in 2010 at Santa Monica Place in Santa Monica, Calif. It will replace a Macy’s store.
In August 2011, a new store in Georgetown Park in the Georgetown area of Washington also will be modeled after Bloomingdale’s SoHo store.
In fall 2011, a store will open at Westfield Valley Fair in San Jose/Santa Clara, Calif.
The three store openings are in addition to the previously announced Bloomingdale’s store opening in Phoenix in 2010.
