NEW YORK–Bloomingdale’s received “Department Store of the Year” honors from the Global Department Store Summit 2008, the first-ever global platform for department stores. The retailer received the award in London last week.
The award was created to recognize a world-class performer and innovator from the department store industry.
A panel of 53 department store chief executive officers nominated the best department store in the world in 2008. Criteria included an enviable profile through branding; differentiated positioning and powerful messaging; successful development and execution of product, store and service innovation strategies; delivery of an extraordinary in-store experience; superior customer service; and strong financial performance, according to a Bloomingdale’s statement.
The summit, a new platform designed to provide insight into the strategies of leading department stores, was organized by U.K. retailer Selfridges and Intercontinental Group of Department Stores.
