Beré to Retire from Dollar General

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn.–David Beré, president and chief strategy officer of Dollar General, will retire at the end of the retailer’s fiscal year, Jan. 29.
Beré joined the Dollar General board of directors in 2002. He became president in 2006, and served as interim chief executive officer from July 2007 until January 2008, when Rick Dreiling was appointed chairman and CEO. In his career prior to joining Dollar General, Beré served as president and CEO of Bakery Chef and of McCain Foods, and as corporate vice president of Ralcorp Holdings, which acquired Bakery Chef in 2003. He also served in a number executive positions for Quaker Oats.
In a statement, Dollar General said the company does not intend to replace Beré at this time. Dreiling will assume the president’s post.
